BIS Legislative Breakfast

Earlier this week, Brain Injury Services (BIS) was honored to be joined by a number of our clients, board members, and local elected officials at the ADAPT Clubhouse in Alexandria for a meet-and-greet breakfast as part of our ongoing advocacy for those living with brain injury. BIS believes that an important part of serving our clients includes outreach, education, and advocacy in the communities where they work and live.

After hearing from our Deputy Director Lisa McCarthy, and Outreach & Advocacy Manager Katy Schnitger, guests were able to spend time talking informally with clients Kitti Tong, Andrew Davie, and Jan Delucien about their injuries, their experiences, and the different ways that local governments can help them in their ongoing recovery. It was also a great opportunity for our local officials to tour the ADAPT Clubhouse in Alexandria.

Opportunities like this are one way that we ensure that those with the power to make policy changes that will positively impact the brain injury community are aware of what their needs are, but also to show how inspiring those living with brain injury truly are.
We are honored to be able to serve this community in northern Virginia, and can’t wait until the next Legislative Breakfast opportunity. Major thank you to Senator Scott Surovell; Delegate Paul Kriezek; Delegate David Bulova (who also serves as a BIS Board Member); Logan Kapil, Chief of Staff for Delegate Briana Sewell, Chairman Jeff McKay, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and his Chief of Staff Clayton Medford; and Gordon Baer, Aide to Ann Wheeler Prince William County Board of Supervisors for attending.
