Brain Injury Services provides specialized case management to seniors (age 55+) who live in Fairfax County. These services address the complex needs of clients who have experienced disabilities involving cognition, behavior and physical functioning. This intervention focuses on minimizing institutionalization and maximizing clients’ strengths and abilities in order to be a part of their community. The role of the Senior Specialist Case Manager also includes increasing the capacity of other organizations to serve our clients and caregivers/family effectively, as well as providing community education.


  • Individuals must have documented evidence of an acquired, non-degenerative brain injury that occurred after birth.
  • Individuals must be at least 55 years of age.
  • Individuals must reside in Fairfax County.
  • Individuals must sign a release for obtaining necessary assessment information. If the Case Manager believes that the individual has a problem with drugs and/or alcohol, he/she must participate in a substance abuse evaluation and must be willing to follow
  • If the Case Manager believes that the individual is a danger to him/herself or others, the individual must participate in a mental health evaluation and must be willing to follow treatment recommendations.
  • Individual must have legal status in the United States, including but not limited to, student visa, work authorization, Green Card.


Case management services are provided at no cost to the individual however program fees may apply.


  • Anyone can refer a Fairfax County Resident to the Senior Specialist Case Management Program but the individual with a brain injury must desire to enroll in the program.
