Karen Brown

Karen Brown

Karen Brown received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Ithaca College and her Master’s Degree from Auburn University majoring in Rehabilitation Counseling. She was a doctoral student at George Washington University and completed all course work in Rehabilitation Leadership. Ms. Brown is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and Certified Brain Injury Specialist. In July of 2011, Karen was awarded a scholarship from the Harvard Business School Club in Washington DC to attend the Strategic Perspectives for Nonprofit Management Course at Harvard. She has served as adjunct faculty at George Washington University and taught several courses including Case Management and Disability Issues, Head Injury Rehabilitation as well as supervised practicum and internship students. She has spent over 35 years in the rehabilitation field working in Alabama, Texas and Virginia. In the late 1970′s, Ms. Brown worked out of the VA McGuire Hospital in Richmond as Liaison State Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. She also developed and implemented two supported employment programs for individuals with psychiatric disabilities and intellectual disabilities in Northern Virginia.

Karen is past Chair of the Virginia Brain Injury Council and Virginia Alliance of Brain Injury Services Providers. She presently serves as past Chair of the Fairfax County Long Term Care Coordinating Council. She is a member of the Board of Directors for Life Circle Alliances and serves on George Mason University’s College of Health and Human Services Advisory Board. She also serves on Ohio Valley Center for Brain Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation Advisory Council. Ms. Brown is a graduate of Leadership Fairfax (Class of 2001) and has served as a team coach for the past few years. Karen is a member of Virginia Wounded Warrior Program, Region 1 Advisory Board.

Karen Kuffred

Karen has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Science degree from Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia Campus. She has been employed at Brain Injury Services since 1999.

Constance Miller

Constance Miller

Constance Miller, MPH has served the non-profit community for more than twenty-five years. Her experience includes being the executive director of an adoption agency in Virginia and several development positions. She holds a Masters of Public Health from the University of Texas and understands the critical need for BIS in our community. She joined the BIS staff in January 2011.

Lisa Garver

Lisa Garver, MA, NCC, CBIST is the Director of Programs. She has a Bachelor of Science degree from James Madison University, an Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy from Shenandoah University and a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling from The College of New Jersey. She has been employed at Brain Injury Services since 1999.

NKenya Lassiter

NKenya Lassiter

NKenya Lassiter, MA, CRC, CBIS currently is the Program Director of Adult Case Management Services at Brain Injury Services. She has her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. NKenya has been employed at BIS since 2002 and has worked in the field and with persons with various disabilities since 2000.

Jennifer Ardis

Jennifer Ardis

Jennifer Ardis, MSW, CBIS is an Adult Case Manager for Prince William and Fauquier counties and conducts intakes for both counties as well. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree for the College of Notre Dame of Maryland and a Master’s of Social Work degree from George Mason University. She has been employed at Brain Injury Services since 2006.

Gail Bothwell

Gail Bothwell

Gail Bothwell, CCM, CBIS is a Certified Case Manager with more than 20 years experience specializing in support for survivors of brain injury and their family members. She has practiced in rehabilitation settings for inpatient acute, subacute, residential, day treatment, outpatient and long term care settings. She provides community Case Management services for survivors of traumatic and acquired brain injury in the northern Virginia area, and has been employed with Brain Injury Services, Inc. since 2005.

Claire Callison-Aub, MSW, CBIS is an Adult Case Manager. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in English, and a Master’s in Social Work from George Mason University. She has been employed at Brain Injury Services since August 2009.

Joyce Cohen RN, LCSW(CA),CBIS is an adult case manager. She is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist, a Registered Nurse, and has a Masters Degree in Social Work with a Licensed Clinical social work license (CA). She has been employed with Brain Injury Services since 2005.

Colleen Dorgan Hoover, MSW is an adult case manager at Brain Injury Services. She completed her bachelor’s degree from James Madision University and her Masters in Social Work at Virginia Commonwealth University. Prior to working at Brain Injury Services, she was a volunteer with the PALS program for five years.

RoseMarie LaRocca is an Adult Case Manager. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Southern Connecticut State College and a Master of Science degree from Central Connecticut State College. She is CBIS certified. She has been employed with Brain Injury Services since 2005.

Judy Wiegert, MS, CBIS is an Adult Case Manager. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nebraska/Lincoln and a Master of Science degree from the George Washington University in Rehabilitation Counseling. She has been employed at Brain Injury Services since 2009.

Betsy Zeigler

Betsy Zeigler

Betsy Zeigler, ACSW, CCM, CBIS holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the George Washington University and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Denver. Ms. Zeigler has been with Brain Injury Services since 2002 and is serving as Program Director for Child and Adolescent Services. Ms. Zeigler is a certified case manager as well as a certified brain injury specialist. Additionally, she holds positions on the Board of the Case Management Society of the National Capitol Area, the Program Advisory Board for the Social Work Department at George Mason University, and the Professional Advisory Board for the Stroke Comeback Center. She has presented at local and national conferences and has authored eight articles which have appeared in consumer and professional publications.

Jo Thompson, LCSW, CBIS is a Case Manager in the Child & Adolescent Program. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from The College of William & Mary and a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Alabama. She is credentialed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Brain Injury Specialist, and Positive Behavior Support Facilitator. She has been with Brain Injury Services, Inc. since 2003.

Brooke Annessa, MSW, CBIS is a Case Manager in the Child and Adolescent Program at Brain Injury Services. She received her Bachelor’s degree in psychology from George Mason University and her Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. She began her experience with Brain Injury Services as an intern during her graduate program. Brooke is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist and is also preparing for her Clinical Social Work Licensure.

Michelle Thyen, CVA is the Director of Volunteer Programs. She has a Bachelors Degree from Loyola College in Maryland and a Graduate Certification from Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland. She has also obtained her CVA, Certification in Volunteer Administration. She has been employed with Brain Injury Services since 2002.

Tomoko T. Rose, MA, CRC, CBIS is the Volunteer Placement Program Specialist. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tokyo Woman’s Christian University in Tokyo and a Master of Arts in Rehabilitation Counseling from George Washington University in Washington. D.C. She is a certified rehabilitation counselor and a certified brain injury specialist. She has been employed at Brain Injury Services since 2006.

Keith Robinson, MBA, CBIS is the Manager of the ADAPT Clubhouse. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Winston-Salem State University and a Masters of Business Administration degree from Strayer University. He has been employed at Brain Injury Services since 2006.

Benjamin Hogge is a Unit Coordinator at the ADAPT Clubhouse. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Salisbury University. He has been employed at Brain Injury Services since 2011.

Kimberlee Baugh is a Unit Coordinator at the ADAPT Clubhouse. She has a Bachelors degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. Kimberlee has been employed by Brain Injury Services since August 2011.

Zachary Daniel, CBIS is the Manager of Westwood Clubhouse. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from Mary Washington University. He has been employed at Brain Injury Services since 2008.

Jerry Craft, CBIS is a brain injury survivor from 2001 and has been employed by Brain Injury Services Inc. since 2002. I am currently working on receiving my social work degree. I am a work unit coordinator assistant at the Westwood Clubhouse.

Rebecca Miller is a Unit Coordinator for the Westwood Clubhouse. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Valdosta State University, and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Georgia. She has been employed at Brain Injury Services since 2011.

Julianne Berg

Julianne Berg
Julianne Berg, MSW, is an Adult Case Manager serving Loudoun County.  She received her Bachelor’s degree in social work from George Mason University and her Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has specialized in working with people with disabilities since 1993.  She joined Brain Injury Services in 2011.

Denise Newby
Denise Newby, MPA, PsyD is a Clinical Therapist with BIS. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Public Administration degree from the Ohio State University. She has a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University/Washington DC. She has been with Brain Injury Services since 2011.

Sara Aly

Sara Aly is a Bilingual Adult Case Manager at Brain Injury Services.  She received her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from her home country Egypt and her Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from George Mason University.  She began her experience with Brain Injury Services as an intern during her graduate program.  She has been employed at BIS since 2011.
