About Us

Who We Are And What We Stand For

Since 1989, Brain Injury Services (BIS) has taken a leadership role in developing community based services for residents of Northern Virginia and surrounding counties who have experienced a brain injury. BIS takes pride in serving over 500 survivors and their families each year.

From the beginning our core values, (partnerships, respect, catalyst, integrity and cost-effective) contributed to the focus on quality and value in attempting to meet the needs of individuals who have survived a traumatic event in their lives and move forward. To that end, BIS meets this by providing specialized client-directed case management services, day programs, supported living, and innovative support services that are either provided in-house or through contracted services. These support services may include:

    • community support services
    • cognitive rehabilitation
    • client volunteer placement program
    • PALS program
    • Speakers Bureau
    • … and therapeutic groups

BIS has a long history of “firsts” in Virginia including developing a Brain Injury Case Management Program for Children and Adolescents. Along with our direct service delivery to this population, BIS provides professionals in the community education about brain injury, prevention activities and advocacy. BIS is CARF accredited which represents our commitment to continually improve our services and meet high standards in service delivery.  BIS is supported by state general funds administered by the Department for Aging & Rehabilitative Services, as well as by grant funding and private donations.
